Matthew LaVere has been named by the Pacific Coast Business Times as one of the top “40 Under 40” business professionals in the tri-counties. He has also been nominated by his peers as a Rising Star and Super Lawyer.
Mr. LaVere acts as outside general counsel for numerous businesses, ranging from large international companies to small start-ups. He advises his clients in all aspects of corporate and real estate matters, including: business and real estate acquisitions, formation and reorganization of business entities, negotiation and review of contracts/leases, employment laws and business regulations, contract enforcement and trade secrets.
Mr. LaVere’s diverse group of clients include agricultural/farming companies, real estate investors and developers, restaurants, breweries, clothing companies, auto and truck dealerships, music and arts venues, HOAs, event production companies, non-profits, manufacturing companies and technology start-ups.
Beyond his work as general counsel, Mr. LaVere also has extensive trial experience and has successfully litigated a wide-variety of matters. He has represented both employers and individuals in all types of employment litigation, including wage and hour, sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful termination. He also has extensive experience litigating personal injury matters and complex business disputes.
Matthew LaVere graduated from Villanova Preparatory School in Ojai before moving onto Pepperdine University where he earned a bachelor’s degree cum laude, with honors and distinction in 2000. In 2006 his earned his law degree from the Pepperdine University School of Law where he also earned a Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine’s top-ranked Strauss Institute.
Prior to practicing law, Mr. LaVere’s previous jobs included working for President Bill Clinton, as a legislative aide on Capitol Hill, and a six- month position with the United States Attorney’s Office Organized Crime Strike Force in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Matthew was elected to the Ventura City Council in 2016 and proudly serves as the Mayor of Ventura. In his elected role, Mr. LaVere has also served on the Ventura City Council’s Economic Development subcommittee, the Ventura Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Development subcommittee, the Ventura Council of Governments (VCOG), the Association of Water Agencies (AWA) and the Regional Defense Partnership for the 21st Century (RDP-21). Mr. LaVere’s in-depth knowledge and experience in local government and the regional business sector allows him to offer unique guidance and counsel to his clients.

Paul’s practice focuses on business transactions and civil litigation with an emphasis on the areas of business, employment, real estate and intellectual property. Paul graduated from Northwestern University and the UCLA School of Law and practiced at two prestigious national law firms before starting his own practice.
Paul represents individuals and employers in employment, business, real estate litigation, in both individual and class actions. Paul has extensive trial experience in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. He also regularly represents applicants for federal trademarks in the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. His approach to litigation is to be an aggressive advocate but to first seek to resolve cases when possible and it is in his client’s best interest.
Paul also represents a wide array of businesses, from start-ups to large corporations, in such areas as agriculture, technology, fashion, logistics, entertainment, food and beverage, consumer electronics and online marketing. Paul is a trusted advisor and experienced negotiator and has successfully negotiated thousands of contracts and resolved countless disputes for his business clients.
Paul has been a member of the State Bar of California since 2000, and is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Central, Northern, and Southern Districts of California, the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of the United States.
